RCC Completes Concrete Pour on Unit 4 at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant

The concrete pour for the nearly 600 ft veil on the Unit 4 natural draft cooling tower was completed in May 2016. Unit 4 is the second of two new natural draft cooling towers being constructed by RCC for Westinghouse Electric Co. at the Southern Nuclear’s Vogtle Electric Generating Plant.

Vogtle’s Units 3 and 4 will be the first in the industry to use the Westinghouse AP1000 advanced pressurized water reaction technology, which allows the nuclear cores to be cooled even in the absence of operator interventions or mechanical assistance. Vogtle Units 3 and 4 will be the first new nuclear units built in the US in the last three decades.
