RCC Completes Construction of 8-Cell Cooling Tower

at Marshalltown Generating Station

In the spring of 2016, RCC completed construction of an 8-cell in-line mechanical draft cooling tower for KBR at the Marshalltown Generating Station (MGS) in Marshalltown, Iowa. In addition to design and construction of the cooling tower, RCC’s scope included supply and installation of the hot water riser pipes, bypass pipes, and lightning protection system.

The new 650-megawatt combined-cycle, natural gas fueled station is owned by Alliant Energy, and is expected to power more than 500,000 homes, while providing long-term environmental benefits and economic opportunities for Iowa. MGS is expected to begin operations by the second quarter of 2017.
